RIPON ATHLETE IN THE NEWS

PHOENIX — The Marian University baseball team started its season in dramatic fashion on Friday. The Sabres scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat William Patterson, 5-4. Nick Reschke had three hits and scored two runs, including the winning run on a Charlie Beau bunt single. Mitchell Gardner came off the bench to deliver a game-tying single in the at-bat before Beau. Nick Raddant surrendered four runs in eight innings for Marian, while Ripon native TJ Mlodzik threw a perfect ninth for the win.

Marian 7-9, UW-Stout 9-4
Pitching struggled for both teams as they split a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday. Mlodzik went two innings in both games and only allowed one run, but starters for both teams got chased early. Stout scored three in the third and four in the fourth inning of the first game, while Marian's Peter Reschke had three hits and three RBI. In game two, Marian exploded for six runs in the fifth inning on four hits and three walks. Mlodzik was credited with his second win.
