RIPON RAIL SYSTEM ON GOVERNOR'S WISH LIST

Gov. Jim Doyle on Wednesday gave Washington officials a sweeping wish list of $3.7 billion in highway, education, environment and energy-saving projects that he said could be started by spring, if President-elect Barack Obama and Congress agree on a stimulus package for states.
The list included $600 million to help clean up cancer-causing PCBs in Fox Valley waterways; $298 million in highway projects, including $97 million to speed up expansion of I-94 between Milwaukee and Illinois; and $993 million for energy conservation projects, including $763 million that would help retrofit private businesses. Doyle’s list includes $81.1 million in Northeast Wisconsin road work, including U.S. 41 between Green Bay and Abrams and in the Oshkosh area, U.S. 45 between Kewaskum and Eden and between Winchester and New London, and Interstate 43 between Green Bay and Port Washington; $71.5 million in railroad work from Fairwater and Markesan, from Ripon to Oshkosh, from Amberg to the Wisconsin–Michigan state line, and from Plymouth to Kohler; $7 million in airport projects, including security work at Outagamie County Regional Airport in Greenville, Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, $Sheboygan County Memorial Airport, Washington Island Airport and Manitowoc County Airport; $2.6 million in funds to Valley Transit in Appleton, Fond du Lac Area Transit System, Green Bay Metro Transit, Oshkosh Transit System and Sheboygan Transit; and $5.2 million in harbor projects at Carver Boat Corp. in Green Bay, Oconto and Marinette Marine.
