While the number of probable cases of H1N1 infection identified in Wisconsin continues to grow, as of May 4 there were still only three confirmed cases — 2 in Milwaukee County and 1 in Adams County. As of May 4 there were 102 probable cases in the state. With a growing number of cases of swine flu being reported in the United States, Fond du Lac County and the Wisconsin Department of Health have initiated enhanced testing and surveillance.
Ripon College is working closely with Fond du Lac County and will follow the guidelines put forth by the State of Wisconsin to ensure the wellbeing of students. Ripon College is asking all of its students, faculty and staff who have traveled to any area where there are confirmed cases of swine influenza within the last 7 days and who experience any of the following symptoms, to contact Ripon College Health Services, 301 Bartlett Hall, 748-8141 or your primary care provider.
Fever - Cough - Sore throat - Body aches - Headaches - Chills - Fatigue
The following measures are recommended to protect you and those around you from getting and/or spreading illness:
* Stay home as long as you are ill
* Contact your health care provider to determine if you need to be seen
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
* Cover your cough or sneeze with your upper sleeve. If you use a tissue, throw it away after one use
* Use your own drinking cups and straws
* Avoid being exposed to people who are sick with influenza-like symptoms
* Frequently clean commonly touched surfaces such as door knobs, refrigerator handles, telephones, faucets, computer mouse and keyboards, and copier buttons
